My Hair Journey

Once upon a time........(sorry this isn't that type of story) Seriously, I don't know how old I was when I got my first perm but like most, I was young. Way before I was a teenager. Growing up I had a decent amount of hair. When I lived with my aunt she took care of my locks and mad sure my hair was as healthy as it could be. My mother permed my hair and left me to manage my locks. You know the rest of the story, it became very brittle and damaged. When I was a Junior in high school (2002) I attempted to grow my perm out but went back to the "creamy crack" because I was very active in high school and could not maintain "the kinkz". My sophomore year of college 2005 I received my last perm. (Sorry I don't remember the month). I do remember wearing rods and straw sets for a a few months until I had enough new growth to BC. In October I chopped off all of my hair (myself )and got micro braids. I kept the micros in until February 2006. Then I got twists until my hair grew long enough to rock an afro puff. Over the years I experimented with natural styles and straightened my hair frequently. I have had color, cuts and even sew-ins and now the front of my hair no longer curls on its own. After discovering blogs and youtube videos, (Kim Love) I have decided to embrace my Kinky Curls for 2011. I am challenging myself to nurture my hair back to health and grow long rapunzel strands.

Regimen

My Regimen right now is fairly simple.

I Pre-poo, wash, deep condition and style every Tuesday night. Throughout the week I keep my hair moisturized with a water mixture and then I seal with a shea butter mixture. I have been trying to wear my hair in a protective style throughout the week. If I have somewhere to go, then I will wear my hair out. Depending on the event, I may set my hair on flexi-rods. I am NOT applying any direct HEAT to my hair.

Pre-Poo: Coconut oil, African 6 Herbal Oil, and Cholesterol conditioner.
Wash: Miss Jessie's cleansing shampoo
Conditioner: Herbal Essence Hello Hydration
Deep Conditioner:  2 Eggs, Honey, Olive Oil
Shea Mixture.:Avocado Oil, Sweet Almond Oil and Shea Butter.
Water Mixture: A few drops of my Avocado/ Almond Oil into water.

This is a picture of a protective style. I simply twisted my hair into small twist and then pinned and secured with bobby pins. I added a headband for style!
